TIPS FOR LIVING WITH WILDLIFE

Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation, a local 501 (c) 3 organization has some great tips for living with the wildlife in our area.  They remind us that the animals were here first, this is their home too.  You can learn more from them at:  www.wildlife-rescue.org, or facebook.com/txwrr

They are a non-profit wild animal sanctuary located on 212 acres in Kendall County, Texas, with a convenient animal intake facility in San Antonio.  Their mission is focused on the rescue and rehabilitation of native wildlife and providing a safe, permanent home in sanctuary for a variety of native and non-native wildlife.  Since their founding in 1977, over 200,000 animals have been brought to their facility from Texas and around the country.  The majority of these animals were rehabilitated, or raised from babies, and released into the wild.  They also take in non-native species from private zoos, medical research, confiscations by authorities, and voluntary surrenders by owners who can’t care for the animal.  They currently provide permanent homes for over 600 non-releasable animals, including birds, primates, native and non-native felines, foxes, bears, coyotes, reptiles and many farm animals.  WRR is not open to the public.

Trapping of wildlife is strongly discouraged.  Check out Wildlife.org to learn more about how to solve various problems with the wildlife you may encounter in Clear Springs Park.

Dead Animal Disposal

The following organization may be called to dispose of a dead deer or wild pig.  As part of its maintenance responsibility, the Public Works division of the Infrastructure Services Dept. in Bexar County will remove animals that have been killed on County-maintained rights-of-way. These include streets and roads and water drainage facilities that are: outside the incorporated limits of any cities or towns in Bexar County; not maintained by the State of Texas (Federal and State highways, Farm to Market roads, and Interstate highways); not privately owned (in gated communities or other roads not accepted for maintenance by Bexar County). Animals killed in County-maintained rights-of-way are normally removed the same day they are reported.

Call (210) 335-6700 to report the location of dead animals on the road.  Deceased pets are the responsibility of the pet owner.
